
Human Rights Watch and the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) said that the country of Egypt should all its citizens to put their religion on their identification cards. Human Rights Watch said that the Ministry of Interior officials prevents people from registering their religion on their identification cards. Also, they said that the citizens can't even list their religions on other documents such as their birth certificates. Human Rights Watch said that the Ministry of Interior officials are using their interpretation of the Islamic law to denial the identification of the use of religion.
All Egyptian citizens are required to get identification cards as soon as they reach the age of sixteen. This identication card is used throughout life such as getting a job, going to school, getting a driver license, etc. The Ministry of Interior officials said that people can choose between these three religions: Islam, Christianity, or Judaism. Human Rights Watch reviewed many cases involving this issue. Other people said that the Ministry of Interior officials bribed people about their religion. Now, Human Rights Watch wants justice for the citizens of Egypt. (This issue took place in Cairo on November 12, 2007).
