Freedom of Religious

Michael Kirby is a High Court judge who is pushing for religious freedom. Kirby want Australia citizens to embrace religion as a subject he called "a basic human right." He spoken at the Griffith University and used many examples to made his point across. One of these examples are from Islam about a story of a Malaysian Muslim woman who tried to change her religion. She want to change her religion from Islam to Christianity. Unfortunately, she couldn't do it because the court rejected her case. Kirby said this example showed that there is a restriction on the freedom of religion in Malaysia. He commented on other cases other the world that have restrictions on religions and he hoped that it doesn't happen in Australia. Kirby quoted this sentence during his speeches: "In Australia, at least, we must be truly committed to the principle of mutual respect and acceptance that lies at the heart of the world-wide movement for the protection of fundamental, universal human rights." He want people to choose their religion instead of the religion that was imposed by the government and he hope that minorities would embrace their religions too.
